About the Sports Medicine Doctor
Dr. Charles Whitney is a chiropractic muscle physiologist. He is a FIT-certified sports medicine doctor specializing in pain relief and rehabilitation. A 1988 graduate of the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic (now Palmer University), Dr. Whitney also has an undergraduate degree in neuromuscular physiology. After 10 years practicing chiropractic and physical therapy, he realized it was tight muscles that pull people out of alignment. He then expanded his studies further into neuromuscular physiology while exploring why muscles become tight in the first place.
Dr. Whitney set about developing a chiropractic massage technique to correct hypertonic muscle spasm which causes most of our pain. He calls the technique "Chiro-ssage" which he employs himself, not with a massage therapist or additional staff. Chiro-ssage can be applied through the patient's clothing using the doctor's hands, elbows, various percussion instruments, and currently, a baseball bat, which he calls "Batman therapy." He also utilizes deep tissue ultrasound, called "Ultra-ssage." Chiro-ssage is a unique chiropractic deep tissue massage designed to treat muscles from a structural point of view with special consideration given to spinal mechanics and neurological relations. In other words, it is designed to release tight muscles that are responsible for the body's misalignments as well as pinched nerves. Because effective muscle therapy requires more time, visits are 50 minutes long instead of 5 or 10 minutes which is common in most chiropractic offices.
Once the patient is realigned, using Chiro-ssage and Palmer Package Adjustive technique, Chiro-ssage supports the corrected alignment while restoring lost elasticity of muscles. This is what relieves the pain and spasms. Treatment for pain and tight muscles has never felt so good. Dr. Whitney has been a life-time athlete competing in power lifting, strong man, mixed martial arts and bodybuilding. He currently trains in the gym three times a week and consults other athletes with a less-is-more philosophy to achieve the best results in training. Recovery is the ultimate key to progress!
